This exquisite golden sculpture portrays Avalokiteshvara (specifically Shadakshari Lokeshvara, the four-armed manifestation of the Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion), a central and deeply revered figure in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. He is seated in the full lotus meditative posture (dhyanasana) atop an elaborately detailed double-lotus base. His primary hands are joined at his chest in the anjali mudra (gesture of prayer and greeting), cradling a wish-fulfilling jewel that symbolizes ultimate bodhicitta. His upper right hand holds a mala (crystal rosary) for counting mantras, while his upper left hand holds a blooming lotus flower, representing spiritual purity and cosmic unfolding. He is heavily adorned with the magnificent ornaments of a Bodhisattva, including an intricate five-pointed crown, elegant necklaces, and a flowing sash that drapes gracefully over his torso.

From a structural and aesthetic standpoint, the sculpture is an outstanding example of high-caliber Himalayan gilt-bronze casting, rooted in centuries-old Newar craftsmanship. The entire statue glows with a highly uniform and lustrous sheen achieved through traditional gold-gilding, which permanently sheets the copper-alloy core in pure 24K gold. Framing the deity is a large, almond-shaped prabhamandala (halo) completely enveloped in deeply chased, fluidly swirling floral scrolls and foliate designs. The face is delicately detailed with a soft “cold gold” finish, displaying serene downcast eyes, a raised third eye of wisdom, and a compassionate smile that perfectly embodies the peaceful nature of Lokeshvara.
